John Canepa Chief Executive Officer Mr. Canepa joined U.S. Genomics as Chief Financial Officer in October 2003. During his tenure at U.S. Genomics, Mr. Canepa guided the Company through the development and launch of the Trilogy® 2020 platform and assays, a round of venture capital financing and through two phases of a multi-million-dollar biodefense contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The Board of Directors appointed him to the position of Chief Executive Officer in November 2005. Prior to joining U.S. Genomics, Mr. Canepa served as Vice President, Finance & Administration, and Chief Financial Officer of Winphoria Networks, Inc., a venture capital-backed wireless telecommunications company. Under Mr. Canepa's direction, Winphoria raised more than $60 million of equity and debt financing prior to its acquisition by Motorola in May 2003. Mr. Canepa was instrumental in structuring business development arrangements and in negotiating the sale of the company to Motorola. Previously he was a senior partner in the Boston office of Arthur Andersen, where he led the firm's worldwide life sciences practice. Mr. Canepa holds a Masters in Finance from Michigan State University and a B.A. from Denison University. |

Gus Lawlor Director Mr. Lawlor is a General Partner at HealthCare Ventures (HCV), one of the largest healthcare-focused venture capital firms in the world. Mr. Lawlor has 15 years of experience in the biotechnology industry in finance, business development, mergers and acquisitions, and general management. Prior to joining HCV in 2000, he was Chief Operating Officer of LeukoSite, a biotechnology company. Before joining LeukoSite, Mr. Lawlor also served as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Corporate Development for Alpha-Beta Technology, and he was previously Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Business Development, at BioSurface Technology. Mr. Lawlor is a co-founder of Phase Forward, a company developing Internet-based management tools for conducting clinical trials. Mr. Lawlor received a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire, and an M.A. in Management from Yale University. | |
Enrico Petrillo, M.D. Director Dr. Petrillo has been a Director of U.S. Genomics since October 1999. Dr. Petrillo joined CB Health Ventures as a General Partner after serving as a Senior Consultant and Founding Partner of the Health Care Commercialization Group at Fletcher Spaght, a strategy consulting firm. He brings over ten years of experience in advising numerous major academic centers and multinational pharmaceutical, information technology, biotechnology firms, medical services, device, and venture capital companies. Dr. Petrillo received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and an M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his internship, residency, and fellowship training in General Internal Medicine at Harvard Medical School and presently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Spherics. | |
David Hoey Director Mr. Hoey brings over 15 years of business development and financing expertise to U.S. Genomics. Most recently, Mr. Hoey was Vice President, Marketing and Business Development of InfoLibria, Inc., a developer of Internet infrastructure solutions. Mr. Hoey also served as Vice President of Business Development at Molten Metal Technology, Inc., where he developed and maintained corporate alliances and joint ventures both in the U.S. and abroad. Mr. Hoey has completed over $400 million in corporate collaborations and financings, and he served as consultant to, and Board Member of, Bligh Ventures Limited, a publicly traded Australian venture capital firm with strategic investments in biotechnology, software development, and telecommunications. | |
