U.S. Genomics Names Stephen P. DeFalco, Former PerkinElmer Executive, as New Chief Executive Officer and Chairman
CEO brings extensive life science and commercialization experience Woburn, MA (March 26, 2003) – Stephen P. DeFalco has joined U.S Genomics as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, according to Eugene Chan, Founder of the Company. U.S. Genomics is a leading marketer and developer of single molecule analysis technologies for the life sciences industry. The Company’s GeneEngine™ technology allows the rapid analysis of DNA, RNA and proteins. “Stephen brings a wealth of life science industry experience to U.S. Genomics and will play a vital role in commercializing our GeneEngine technology. I believe Stephen will enable the Company to translate our scientific expertise into robust product lines and I’m excited he’s joining our team,” said Chan. Chan will devote more time to advanced applications of the technology platform and will remain an active member of the Board of Directors. Prior to joining U.S. Genomics, DeFalco served as President of PerkinElmer Instruments and Senior Vice President of PerkinElmer, Inc. While there, he led the acquisition and turnaround of PerkinElmer Instruments, a 2,400-employee division with $500 million in revenues that supplies analytical instrument solutions to the pharmaceutical industry. In this role, he launched over 30 new products and successfully completed a significant number of acquisitions and joint ventures. Previously, DeFalco held executive positions at United Technologies, was a senior manager with McKinsey & Company in their high tech sector, and led engineering teams at IBM. DeFalco was awarded an MS in Management from the Sloan School of Management at MIT and received an MS in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University. He also holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. “I have been impressed with Stephen’s business acumen and broad experience in the life sciences arena.
